SOFT SKILLS: A SINE QUA NON FOR EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

The study assessed the effectiveness of soft skills in business education graduates gaining and sustaining jobs and how soft skills could be used in private entrepreneurial practice. The population comprised 360 students made up of 300 level and 200 level students of the Business Education Department in Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Lagos State University of Education, respectively and a sample of 186 students, using random sampling and the table for determining sample size for a finite population in determining the sample of the population. The instrument for data collection was 4- a point rating scale of Very Highly (4 points), Highly (3 points), Moderately (2 points) and Lowly (1 point) questionnaire on Soft Skills: A sine qua non for Employability and Entrepreneurship among Business Education Graduates in Lagos State (SKEEBEGLS). Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data generated from the answer to the research questions and the decision rule for the research questions was based on a cut-off point of 2.5 and above for Highly and below 2.5 points for Lowly. The study's findings showed that the respondents agreed that soft skills were highly required to enhance the employability of business education graduates and for entrepreneurial sake. The study concluded that soft skills will improve the employability of graduates of business education and also enhance their technical skills. The study could serve both as operational guidelines for business education undergraduate training, as well as intending entrepreneurs. It was also recommended amongst others that business education graduates must be exposed to various entrepreneurial soft skills and also equip them with all the soft skills for them to create and maintain their customers’ needs.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING REPORTING AND MANAGEMENT OF FRAUD OF LISTED AGRICULTURAL FIRMS IN NIGERIA

This study examined environmental accounting reporting and management fraud of listed agricultural firms in Nigeria. The objective of the study was to investigate whether emission reporting, effluent and waste reporting, compliance to environmental laws and biodiversity reporting have significant effect on management fraud. The secondary source of data collection was adopted in the study where the purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample size of four (4) listed agricultural firms for the study. Least Square regression analysis was used in this study and the findings revealed that emission reporting, effluent and waste reporting, compliance to environmental laws and biodiversity reporting has significant effect on management fraud. Finally, it recommended that priority should be given to policies regarding emission and energy management to promote optimal energy consumption. A careful mix of such policies should be considered as over-appropriation or under appropriation may lead financial misappropriation.

SYNTHESIZING THE NEXUS BETWEEN SUSTAINABLE MARKETING MIX AND CONSUMER PURCHASING BEHAVIOUR IN THE EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRIES: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Sustainable marketing is a subset of a diverse bodies of knowledge involved in propagating the imperative for businesses to have and maintain their competitive advantage while acknowledging the imperative for environmental and social sustainability. The popular assumption is that consumers are conscious of the environmental and social consequences of their consumption behaviour, however, this assumption may not be valid in developing economies. Although sustainable marketing mix and consumer awareness of sustainability practices, collectively influence consumer purchasing behaviour, there is a significant gap in the appreciation of sustainability knowledge and in the levels of adoption of sustainability practices across global spheres. This study, through synthesizing extant literature, establishes a thought coherence for future studies in developing countries.

ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION AND SURVIVAL OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

This study is aimed at investigating the contribution of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) to the survival of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Lagos State, Nigeria. Descriptive cross-sectional survey technique was adopted and a sample size of 396 SMEs was selected. Data for the study were gathered through structured questionnaire and analyzed with both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated that EO significantly influences the survival of SMEs in Lagos State. Specifically, the study discovered that risk-taking, proactiveness and innovativeness have significant and positive relationship with survival of SMEs in Lagos State while competitive aggressiveness and autonomy were not significant. It is therefore recommended that SMEs in Lagos State should deepen their engagement of EO, with focus on risk-taking, proactiveness and innovativeness. The government, through relevant agencies should continue to educate SMEs owners/managers on the benefits of EO and mode of integrating it into their business.

THE EFFECTS OF FIRE INSURANCE PREMIUM RATING ON CLAIMS SETTLEMENT AND INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO OF INSURERS IN PRE-COVID ERA: THE NIGERIA EXPERIENCE

This study examines fire insurers in Nigeria's pre-COVID market, the study focus on their ability to accurately assess risks.setting premiums rating, investment portfolio and manage claims efficiently. Effective claims and investment management are key to maintaining the financial stability of fire insurers, particularly in high-risk markets. The research utilized secondary data from the audited financial statements of 15 licensed general insurance companies in Nigeria, covering a 20-year period (1999-2018). A purposive sampling technique was employed to select the sample, based on the researcher’s judgment. Data analysis incorporated inferential statistics, including multiple regression and fixed/random effects models, to test empirical relationships across four hypotheses. The findings revealed a strong association between insurance premium ratings and premium income, with claim settlement positively influencing premium ratings. Furthermore, the study established significant links between adequate premium rating, investment portfolios, profitability, and capital adequacy of property insurance firms in Nigeria. The study recommends enhancing data accessibility and strengthening regulatory frameworks to improve the overall performance and stability of the fire insurance sector.

THE MEDIATING ROLE OF RISK TOLERANCE ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL BIAS AND INVESTMENT DECISION OF PENSION FUND ADMINISTRATORS IN NIGERIA

Investment decision is very crucial in directly determining how an organization's resources are allocated, shaping its long-term finance, profitability and growth. As important as it is, investment decision made by managers on behalf of their organization may be susceptible to one form or more of emotional bias. This study examined influence of emotional behavioural biases on the investment decisions of Pension Fund Administrators (PFA’s) in Nigeria, which can lead to suboptimal strategies, compounded by risk tolerance. Drawing on behavioural finance theories, the study addresses how emotional biases—regret-aversion, status-quo bias, self-control bias —affect institutional decision-making within the pension fund sector. Using Survey research design, data were collected from licensed PFAs operating in Nigeria. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the direct and mediated relationships between behavioural biases, risk tolerance, and investment outcomes. The findings reveal Regret Aversion and Status-Quo Bias are significant; while Self Control Bias is insignificant on Investment Decisions of PFA’s in Nigeria. In addition, the mediating effect of risk tolerance on Regret Aversion and Status-Quo Bias was significant, Self Control Bias was insignificant. Based on these findings, this study highlights the critical role of risk tolerance in PFA’s mitigating these effects, better adaptability to market conditions and improved decision-making, even in the presence of emotional biases. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, financial advisors, and institutional investors aiming to improve the efficiency and resilience of pension fund management in Nigeria.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP BOTANY: A PANACEA FOR CURBING THE RATE OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA

Entrepreneurship botany, an emerging interdisciplinary field that integrates botanical science with entrepreneurial innovation, offers a sustainable solution to the escalating rate of unemployment in Nigeria. With the country's vast biodiversity and rich repository of economic plants, entrepreneurial engagement in botanical resources presents untapped opportunities for value addition, enterprise development, and job creation. This paper explores how entrepreneurial botanists can leverage indigenous and high-value plants such as Moringa oleifera, Hibiscus sabdariffa, Zingiber officinale, and Azadirachta indica to stimulate employment across multiple sectors, including agriculture, processing, marketing, and export. By promoting value chains and encouraging small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurship in botany can contribute to rural industrialization, youth empowerment, and economic diversification. The study underscores the need for supportive policies, capacity building, and investment in plant-based innovation systems to unlock the full potential of this sector. It concludes that entrepreneurship botany is not only a viable tool for curbing unemployment but also a strategic pathway toward achieving inclusive and sustainable development in Nigeria.

ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION AND JOB CREATION AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF KADUNA STATE UNIVERSITY

The study examined entrepreneurial education and job creation among undergraduate students of Kaduna State University. Therefore, two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study adopted a descriptive survey design in which questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. One hundred and fifty (150) 400 level students of Business Education in Kaduna State university in the 2024/2025 from the population of the study and all were used as sample for the study. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test. The two research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the two hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that entrepreneurial education has significant influence on identification business opportunities among undergraduate students of Kaduna State University, entrepreneurial education has influence on creativity and innovation to initiate business among undergraduate students of Kaduna State University. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that business education undergraduate students of Kaduna State University have discovered skills and talents necessary for identification of relevant business opportunities and can easily develop business idea and create products and services that satisfy will the customers through the influence of entrepreneurial education. The study recommended, among others, that entrepreneurial Education in tertiary institutions should be more practically oriented rather than theory as this will exposed the students to various lucrative skills.

EFFECTS OF EMOTIONAL ABUSED ON CHILD ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN ZARIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF KADUNA STATE

The most prevalent type of child abuse that has a significant effect on the life of a child is the emotional abused. Many societal crimes happen due to emotional scars that a child has at early stage of life from the home, by the parents, siblings and other care givers which may regrettably affects the child entrepreneurship education in school, such as poor performance and lack of proper concentration in class. It is in view of that that this paper tried to find out the effect of emotional abused on child entrepreneurship education. The study adopted descriptive cross sectional survey research design. Convenience sampling technique was used to select six public secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state. Questionnaire was used to collect data from SS1- SS111 students. However, the data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage for demographic characteristics, while mean and standard deviation was used to interpret the data collected. Therefore, based on the findings possible recommendations were made such as; parent should try and adopt a good parental style with flexibility according to situation on ground; also, home visitation by teachers will give room for better interaction with parents, and serves as a means of tracing any kind of abused on children, in order to prevent occurrence of harmful effects on the child entrepreneurship education.

ATTITUDES OF FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TOWARDS ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION FOR SELF-RELIANCE

The study investigates attitudes of female university Students towards entrepreneurship education in Federal University of Education, Zaria. Survey design method was used for the study. The researchers targeted 100 female undergraduate students in Federal University of Education, Zaria. The instrument used for data collection is 60 item four rating scale structured questionnaire. Simple logistic Regression (SLR) and ANOVA were used to test the null hypotheses. All the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 (5%) level of significance. Findings revealed that through entrepreneurship education, students are likely to foster their attitudes towards entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The researchers recommended among others that tertiary institutions in north-west, Nigeria should be mandated to establish Entrepreneurship Centres. The Centres should be equipped with all the modern facilities which could enrich the students with both theoretical and practical skills. This will help to create students with positive attitudes needed for successful business management.

INFLUENCE OF SKILLS ACQUISITION ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT IN GUSAU TOWN

The study intents to examine the Influence of skills acquisition on youth Development in Gusau, Zamfara state. The objective of this study is to specifically examine the extent of the influence of skills acquisition on youth self-reliance and development rate in the state. Data were obtained through the use of five point Likert scale with two items structured questionnaire. Questionnaire were distributed to 60 youth’s respondents, although only 50 questionnaires were returned successful. The study also made recommendation that the establishing of skills acquisition in every nook and cranny of the state will enhanced the level of youth self-reliance and will also increase the rate of employability.
